The loose leaf lettuce and mesclun greens mix is growing beautifully! Yay!

Radish is about a week old and super leggy… Not getting as much sun as I’d like through the trees… We’ll see how it goes.

Let’s meet everyone shall we…

Here’s what I’ve got going on now… All my old friends and I’ve added a few friends to the bunch as well! From the bottom we have the herb basket still going strong despite bi-weekly harvests, Tom Thumb lettuce now growing in a self-watering window box, tomato (formerly tomato-in-a-bag) now living with some basil plants in a larger converted self-watering pot (with the leftover seedlings in a sorted little pots to the side, I couldn’t bear to let them die), some loose-leaf lettuces growing for thanksgiving and my newly planted radish! and lets not forget the patio tomato hanging out on the rail…

This photo was taken about a month ago (around the 1st of October)… you can see my peppermint start that I planted in a window box, the swiss chard in the larger pot that had not yet sprouted, the tomato-in-a-bag that had just begin to poke it’s little head up and one of those smaller pots holds Tom Thumb lettuce sprouts. There is also a herb basket that I bought at home depot (couldn’t resist), a random house plant and my strawberries from hell…

Add it to the list-o-hobbies….
So I have added another random thing to the already random list of things I do (An athletic trainer who crochets and brews her own beer…): I have started vegetable gardening in earnest (same satisfaction of working with my hands and having an amazing finished product while making me feel a little closer to the Creator and the universe).
Now, I live in an apartment so I had to quickly give up my farmer in the dell dreams but I came across some really handy books that gave me all kinds of pointers for us urban gardeners. Everything is growing on my smallish, south facing patio in containers.
I’ll be posting my successes (and failures, gulp) here and there… I’ve been growing strong for about a month now. All of the seeds I planted have sprouted and I haven’t killed any of the starts I bought (ok so the strawberry plant doesn’t look so good but that is totally not my fault)! yay!
